Welcome to the 30 Squadron RAF Association Web Site.

I have been a Member, The Secretary, The Chairman and now Life President for over 31 years. Air Vice Marshal David Dick was the founder of the Association having served with the Squadron in Crete and Burma. The initiative became reality at the RAF Club when a number of retired Squadron members met for lunch. The then OC, Wing Commander John Bell, also attended and plans were made to celebrate the 70 th Anniversary of the Squadron at an event at RAF Lyneham. The Association was formed, at that event, on 25 th March 1985, with David Dick as Chairman, Air Commodore De La Plain as his Deputy, with Alan Napier as Secretary and Ben Lugg as the Treasurer. The members were all Air and Ground Crew and Admin staff covering all aircraft operated during and since the Second World War. That covered operations in Crete, Ceylon, Burma, the Berlin Airlift, the Falklands, and Relief Operations around the world.

As the Association grew in numbers, Annual Reunions were held at RAF Lyneham and many stories were told and friendships renewed. With the long history of all the operations, John Hamlin gathered all the tales and anecdotes and recorded it all in a book: “Flat Out”.

The Association has marked the proud history and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the Service of the Squadron, The Royal Air Force and their Country by erecting memorials in Malame, Crete: Ratmalana, previously Ceylon: South Cerney, Gloucestershire and Alrewas, The National Arboretum.

The Squadron has recently started to operate the Atlas A400M aircraft at RAF Brize Norton. This is an amazing 21 st Century aircraft capable of all the roles that have become the Global Trademark of 30 Squadron since its formation in 1915. There is no doubt that the new aircraft will continue to emulate the Squadron Motto: Ventre A Terre, -- Flat Out – as it has always been.
